This was the first time that I had visited the Czech Republic, we visited Marianske Lazne (Marienbad) in May 2002. The reason that the Germans still call this town Marienbad is that up until the end of the second world war, the town was actually in Germany. But after the end of the war, it was given to the Czech's by the allied forces. So many Germans still call the town by it's original name.
Marianske Lazne is a neo-classical spa town that was built in the mid 1800's

The Main Kolonada and it's gardens The Kolonada amazingly is a gigantic 120m long healthy drinking hall, it has a number of restaurants, and mineral spring fonts inside

As you may have noticed from the photo's included, the town seems to have a particular code of colour, as nearly everything is painted in yellow & white
The wonderful town centre is worthy of a short stroll around
I am still trying to find out the name and reason for this statue, which is situated in the Central Park in the town centre
